Hello Spring!

Spring is the season of earth and water elements in Ayurveda. It's the season of new growth

In Ayurveda there is a consideration of seasonal rhythms that invites us to clear the space for the growth to be revealed within the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. That clearing of space may look different for everyone.

Here are a few ideas that are meant to support you on the path of spring cleaning in a number of areas of your life:

  • A spring cleanse doesn’t need to be all about green juice and lemon water.

  • Incorporate more revolved poses (aka twists) into your home practice or whenever an instructor offers you space to "do your own thing" while in class. Twists will aid in a subtle ringing out of the organs and making space for fresh blood to move in

    • Think: inhale to extend your spine and make space, and exhale to initiate the twist (from there you can inhale to lengthen and exhale to twist a little deeper).

  • Clear out your closet and share with friends or donate to a good cause.

  • Make space in your calendar.

    • Maybe more transition time needs to be carved out between meetings, phone calls, and events that will give your nervous system time to regulate and show up with greater presence. No need to feel late.

  • Be conscious of what you take in with all your senses (i.e. find windows during your day for silence - maybe take a break from the news, watch the sunset/sunrise as often as possible, dry brush your body to activate your lymphatic system, scrape your tongue to invigorate digestion.

  • Practice conscious breathing - consider kapalabhati breathing in the morning - oftentimes referred to as the breath of fire.
